Indigenous EnviroSTEM

On Saturday August 17th, 2019, we offered our first Indigenous EnviroSTEM! We combined some of our EnviroSTEM activities with Indigenous knowledge of local plants thanks to partnership with the Nistawoyou Friendship Centre. We were able to host 15 children, 5 youth and 16 adults at the Justin Slade Youth Foundation for this event!


2019 WBRL READesign Challenge – Fort McMurray

For the past 3 years we have been partnering with the Wood Buffalo Regional Library to host the Ultimate READesign Challenge in various locations across Wood Buffalo including, Fort McMurray, Fort McKay, Anzac and Fort Chipweyan. This year we came back to Fort McMurray once again as a part of the library’s Summer STEM Club program.


STEAM Tea Party

On June 15th, 2019, BrainSTEM Alliance hosted its first STEAM Tea Party at the Oil Sands Discover Centre thanks to sponsorship from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The event allowed for community members of all ages to come out and learn about food science and engineering in a fun tea party setting!


2019 Community Code Day – Health and Wellness

On April 27th and 28th, 2019, BrainSTEM Alliance partnered with Youth Computing and the Wood Buffalo Regional Innovation Network to host the 2nd annual Community Code Day. This 2 day technology conference and hackathon invited community members from across Wood Buffalo to come together at Keyano College to learn about technology and it’s applications to the theme of Health and Wellness.


Ambassador Shefaza featured as Eco expert!

One of our ambassadors, Shefaza Esmail, who leads the Waterloo EnviroSTEM program, was recently featured as a part of the Waterloo Library Eco year Challenge! Check out her 5 Green Tips HERE


Waterloo Public Library Messtival

On March 14th, 2019, One of our Ambassadors Shefaza, one of our leads for the EnviroSTEM program,  participated in the Waterloo Public Library March Messtival event. This event is all about celebrating science and art in a very messy way! 


Black History Month – Black Inventor Showcase

February has been nationally recognized as Black History Month in Canada since 1995; when a motion put forward by Honorable Jean Augustine was unanimously passed in the House of Commons. BrainSTEM Alliance partnered with Rehoboth Alliance for the first time to bring STEM activities to the youth of the Fort McMurray Afro-Canadian community.
