STEAM Tea Party – Fall 2019

On November 3rd, 2019 we hosted our second STEAM TEA Party at the Oil Sands Discovery Centre. This time we had the theme ‘Fall into Winter’ and had a bunch of fun fall and winter themed food science activities as well a fun photobooth and face-painting area!

2019 Launch Wood Buffalo Blockchain Workshop

On October 20th, 2019, as a part of our Launch Wood Buffalo programming, we offered a Blockchain workshop in collaboration with Youth Computing and the Wood Buffalo Regional Innovation Network. The event was hosted at Keyano College with over 30 attendees of all ages. Representatives from Cryptochicks explained what the blockchain is and showed the audience simple ways to interact with the blockchain.

High River READesign – Fall 2019

Returning to the High River Library in November 2019, is the exciting Engineering program, Project READesign!

READesign incorporates elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) into a learning experience where participants use the Engineering Design Process to solve problems for characters in a story. In this session, we are reading an old favorite – Mary Pope Osbourne’s “Vacation Under the Volcano”.

2019 Girl Empowerment Day

October 11th is known as International Day of the Girl and this year we were invited to be a part of Father Patrick Mecredi High School‘s Girl Empowerment Day. 27 girls in grades 7 to 9 were invited for a day of empowerment with 6 local female mentors.

2019 WBRL READesign Challenge – Janvier/Conklin

On October 9th, 2019, we traveled with the Wood Buffalo Regional Library to Janvier and Conklin to host the READesign challenge with the students at schools in those areas. We were able to serve 47 students from kindergarten to grade 6 and read 9 different books all with different problems and engineering solutions!

Bahamas Fundraiser – STEAM Tea Party

Our founder, D’Andre Wilson-Ihejirika, was born and raised in the Bahamas. On September 1st, 2019, Category 5 Hurricane Dorian hit the islands of the Bahamas causing devastating damage.
