Shefaza is currently a PhD Candidate in SERS (School of Environment, Resources, and Sustainability) in the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo. She has a background in environmental engineering, and has since diversified her academic interests to focus on the interdisciplinary nature of sustainability topics, such as food production, organic waste, and soil degradation. Through her research she has had various opportunities to tackle complex environmental problems. Shefaza’s role at BrainSTEM is primarily within the EnviroSTEM initiative, through which she hopes to share her knowledge and expertise in environmental topics in an engaging manner with participants of all ages. In her free time she enjoys community outreach, indoor and outdoor rock climbing, and exploring through local travel!
