October 11th is known as International Day of the Girl and this year we were invited to be a part of Father Patrick Mecredi High School‘s Girl Empowerment Day. 27 girls in grades 7 to 9 were invited for a day of empowerment with 6 local female mentors.

On October 9th, 2019, we traveled with the Wood Buffalo Regional Library to Janvier and Conklin to host the READesign challenge with the students at schools in those areas. We were able to serve 47 students from kindergarten to grade 6 and read 9 different books all with different problems and engineering solutions!

On July 3rd 2019, Ambassador Shefaza hosted a ‘Wormshop’ at the University of Waterloo Ecology Lab, as a part of the EnviroSTEM program. Participants learned about the anatomy of composting worms and how to make their own composting bins.

On Saturday August 17th, 2019, we offered our first Indigenous EnviroSTEM! We combined some of our EnviroSTEM activities with Indigenous knowledge of local plants thanks to partnership with the Nistawoyou Friendship Centre. We were able to host 15 children, 5 youth and 16 adults at the Justin Slade Youth Foundation for this event!
